There is high expectation of a huge turn out of participants, from across the globe as the N40 million virtual launch for the rehabilitation of St Theresa’s Hospital, Issele Uku holds today. 

The virtual launch was organised by a group of Issele Uku indigenes from Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. 

The group made up of illustrious sons and daughters is seeking for N40 million give a new lease on life and restore the hospital’s buildings and equipment for an efficient health service delivery. 

According to the fundraising committee handling the projects 

the initiative to rehabilitate the hospital has become necessary judging from the critical roles that the hospital has played during its over six decades of existence as it was one of the few available health centres then. 

Virtual launch of the N40 million project has been scheduled to hold on the 24th February, 2024, starting by 12:00 PM. EDT NY / DC; 09:00 AM PDT. Calif; 5:00 PM. GMT UK and 6:00 PM  WAT Nig.

The group is therefore, calling on the public, including persons born in the hospital, Issele Uku indigenes, non indigenes, friends and their neighbours, to assist in the fund raising project through financial donations. 

Speaking on the project, Chairman of the Fundraising Committee, Dr Augustine Nwabueze said “we are raising N40 million for St Theresa’s Hospital, Issele Uku, it is our heartfelt appeal that you join us to give this hospital a face-lift to continue to stand the test of time and meeting the health needs of Issele Uku people and her neighbours” .

He equally urged neighboring communities which must have benefitted directly or indirectly from the hospital such as Onicha Ugbo, Onicha Uku, Ubulu-Uku, Igbodo, Ubulu Okiti, Issele Azagba, Otulu, Obior, Onicha Olona, Ugbodu, Ukwu-Nzu, Issele Mkpitime and others, which must have benefitted directly or indirectly from the hospital to join in the rehabilitation project. 

Explaining further, Dr Nwabueze informed “founded in 1957 as St Theresa Maternity and later turned St Theresa Hospital in 1982. This hospital has contributed immensely to the development of Issele Uku community while contributing in great measures to the health needs of the people. It is currently in a deplorable state and urgently needs a turnaround, rehabilitation and inclusion of more clinical buildings and equipment for an efficient health service delivery”. 

“We need your financial support to remodel this hospital. May God replenish you and bless you more as you join us in this fundraising project to acrualise a renewed remodeled, rebranded St Theresa Maternity Hospital”, he added.

Meanwhile, the hospital which is now begging for attention has produced many sons and daughters of both Oligbo Kingdom and outsiders. 

Established by the Catholic Nuns to save women’s life at childbirth and the children in terms of their survival rate post partum, by ensuring they get their appropriate vaccines and care.

The maternity has equally reduced the rate at which women were dying from childbirth, mostly due to post partum hemorrhage and the child due to various infections or due to inadequate immunization.
