As a way to strengthen security at his community, US based Prince Anthony Okonkwo has donated a Toyota Sienna vehicle to the Vigilante Group, Ubulu-Uku unit.

The vehicle was handed over to the community today, in the presence of members of Obi-In-Council, chiefs, community leaders, youths and members of the press at the Obi of Ubulu Uku, Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I  Palace.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the donor, Prince Anthony Okonkwo stated that he decided to donate the vehicle so as to assist in boosting the community’s security architecture.

Prince Okonkwo, from Onicha Okpe quarters, Ubulu-Uku, stated that he has not been happy with the state of security in his home town, stressing the community has lost lives and properties due to insecurity.

He added that the vehicle donation was also a way to support the good efforts of the Vigilante Group who has been trying their best over the years.

Commending the Vigilante group, Okonkwo vowed, that he will continue to support them as far as security matters are concerned.

He however, urged Ubulu-Uku people to be more security conscious as the safety and security of any community are in the hands of the people and the general public.

In a separate Interview with some of the community leaders who graced the occasion, the donor was applauded for his kind gesture towards the promotion of peace and security in Ubulu-Uku  community.

One of the youth leaders who identified himself as Anthony said “Indeed, you are true son of our land. We thank you for this support to our Delta State Vigilante Group,  Ubulu-Uku Units. This will help to prevent, checkmate crime in our Community. We are glad today to had seen a worthy son who knows that security is everyone’s business, both the rich and poor must work together to end criminalities in our environs”.

Speaking further, the youth emphasised that “community Policing gives citizens more control over the quality of life in their community. This is exactly the kind gesture we expect. our good son, a philanthropist has provided  to the neighborhoods, especially our  community Vigilance Group. We commend him for what he has just done.

Still emphasising on the importance of community policing and the Vigilante Group, another indigene applauded Prince Okonkwo, advising other wealthy individuals to emulate the donor.

The elder who spoke on the condition of anonymity said “The operations of every community Vigilance Group such as Ubulu-Uku community Vigilante has  helped  to promote mutual trust between security agencies and the communities, as well the maintenance of public safety and effective policing. So what Okonkwo just did should be emulated by well-meaning Ubulu-Uku elites”.

“We are happy today because this  support from one of our sons will help to promote safety, peace and strong which the Nigerian Police Force acknowledges.

Ubulu-Uku, an agrarian community in Aniocha South LGA of Delta State has in recent times suffered series of losses, both human and material due to security lapses arising from lack of equipment and encouragement for the Vigilante members.
