AS EZEMU GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL CLOCKS 40
By Anthony Awunor
This year, Ezemu Girls Grammar School, Ubulu-Uku will turn 40. The school founded in 1980 is the only all-females secondary school in the town.
Today, good stories are trickling out from EGGS. First is that the school now has a formidable old students association known as Ezemu Girl’s Grammar School Old Students Association (EGGSOSA)..we all know that old students associations are usually the brain behind developmental projects in any alma mater, be it male, female or mixed institutions.
When the school was established 4 decades ago, many did not anticipate that good things will start sprouting out from the Grammar School so soon.
Already EGGSOSA, made up of successful medical doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, civil servants, politicians, military officers, lecturers, businesswomen, journalists, first class university graduates, etc is planning big for their former school. Worried by the dilapidating condition of the school, the old students are raising funds to enable them put their former school in good shape.
But it is very obvious, they cannot do this enormous task all alone; they are therefore, appealing to well-meaning Ubulu Uku folks and even outsiders to support the rebuilding project tagged: “Help Us Rebuild Ezemu Girls Grammar School!”.
Donations have started coming in through gofundme.com, but more donations are desired to be able to meet up their developmental plans.
These plans conceived by EGGSOSA include: building new classroom blocks; fencing the school to keep the students safe; building an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Center; building modern toilets; building a science laboratory and awarding of scholarships to deserving students
To support in any of these projects prospective donors are urged to navigate https://www.gofundme.com/f/rebuild-ezemu-girls-grammar-school?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet and make their donations.
The association has equally opened an account for those in Nigeria and and other parts of the world that could not access gofundme.com. The Union Bank account name is EGGSOSA while the account number is 0149779378.
With support from you and I, there is no doubt that the dream of EGGSOSA will be realized, just as our donations will go a long way in enabling them to put smiles in the faces of those coming up in their former school.
As EGGS turns 40 this year, there is need for all of us to reflect on the condition of learning in the school. It is a time to focus more on the importance of not only female education but the fast changing learning process all over the world. It is indeed, a time to support EGGSOSA which has already started a good foundation for the progress of the school. Let us stand up and support them, so that we can always have an all-females school that we are very proud of anytime.
